In December 2013, Hello Games— the creators of Joe Danger—revealed their next project: the beautiful, procedurally generated space exploration game, No Man’s Sky. Almost three years later, it’s here. Does the final game live up to the sense of wonder hinted at in those early trailers? Not entirely, no. Turn the page to read Chris Livingston’s analysis of the game’s successes and limitations.
Elsewhere this issue, James swims with the fishes in vibrant underwater adventure Abzû, and Andy jumps for joy at the charming and irrepressible Grow Up. Also, finally, N++ arrives on PC. It’s the definitive edition of 2005’s quirky, physics-based hardcore platformer, and, as such, earns the highest score of the issue.
