Heirloom BLOOMS Instead of discarding flowers after an event or once they were past their prime, Angela Compton, founder of the floral design studio The ALTARnative, sought ways to utilize them holistically. The Boynton Beach–based creative began drying flowers and crafting arrangements, crowns, organic potpourri, bath salts, and bath bombs. “My goal was to shed light on sustainable floristry practices, to honor flowers and their beauty throughout all stages of their lives,” she says. Eventually, Compton gravitated toward flower-dyed garments, especially silks, intimates, and loungewear. Today, she specializes in bouquet preservation: extracting color from après-wedding flowers and using it on fabrics to generate a one-of-a-kind keepsake. Her usual medium?
