UNTIL SOME YEARS ago, economic growth statistics were a boring matter. A sleepy government department would release them on pre-set dates, there would be some commentary on the op-ed pages of newspapers, and all would be forgotten until the next numbers were released. It was dull and predictable. Not anymore. Instead of ebbing, controversy rages two days after the release of estimates for India’s economic performance in 2016-17. Outside, a bunch of tiny tots who’ve finished their tour of the museum celebrate being out of school by making hand puppets à la Husain. Inside, the teachers try to ensure that no one accidentally destroys a priceless piece of art as the bemused students stand to attention around the wooden architectural model of the Hall of Nations in Pragati Maidan. Agents of Change Switching agents is a big decision in Hollywood and tends to make big news. It usually implies that an actor is not satisfied with either the quality of work the agent has been lining up, or with the size of the pay-cheque that the agent has been able to negotiate for him or her.
