The concept of the Overton Window1, namely those ideas, topics, and issues of national interest and policy proposals deemed politically acceptable at any given time, provides an interesting lens through which to understand the controversy over firearm rights in South Africa, particularly as the contentious Firearms Control Act (FCA) Amendment Bill once again surfaces in public debate.
