The match was the second Level 3 provincial championship hosted by the Eastern Province Practical Shooting Association (EPPSA). The first was hosted by EPPSA during 2022. EPPSA was required to meet all standards set by IPSC to host a Level 3 match. Range designs had to be presented to IPSC months before for vetting and approval, with the built stages vetted the day before the match was due to take place. This ensured that the level of stages met all IPSC requirements, as would be applicable for any national Level 3 match. Stage construction began on Tuesday and all stages were vetted by the vetting committee on Thursday, to ensure that all safety requirements are adhered to as required by IPSC rules. Why Enhance Your trigger? Except for all but the most performance driven pistols, most are designed for self defence, duty, and Everyday Carry (EDC). Any other use such as a sport is a secondary consideration. As such, pistols tend to be in factory spec with an average trigger designed to function reliably and provide either internal and/or external safety mechanisms to make the weapon ‘drop safe’ and reduce the likelihood of accidental/negligent discharges (AD/ND). This was the first championship in the Western Cape to utilise Silver Mountain electronic targets (eTargets) to score all F Class matches. The sensors on the four outside corners of the targets pick up a shot’s point of impact and relays it back to all cellphones or tablets of competitors shooting on a particular target in that detail. The eTarget system also assigns a score to each shot. While some competitors were a little stressed at the introduction of this technology, following the competition there was general agreement that the eTarget system was a great success. The First C: Comfort It is difficult to shoot well with a firearm where you have to contort your body to fit the weapon instead of the other way around. For optimum results, a rifle should fit you like a well-made, well used glove. There are two rough and ready tests which can help tell if the rifle will fit you.
