I dabbled in some PRS type matches for a while around 2010, starting with a .308, then a 6.5 Creedmoor. That was fun, but I always desired to shoot really far and see what was even possible. I was not that excited about shooting off moving platforms and wobbly fence posts, etc. I just preferred prone and stable, so I gravitated to ELR.
That led me to build a .338 Lapua in 2013 and start shooting farther and farther. However, I had not yet shot a competition with a big gun. At end of 2017, Spearpoint Ranch in Kansas hosted a couple of prototype ELR matches, and I took the .338 Lapua along. I did not do well, as the barrel was absolutely toast.
