The exciting 2023 sports-shooting calendar gained momentum early on in the year with the VGK Outdoor and Adventure IPSC Challenge hosted by Shukokai Sport Shooting Club on Saturday 21 January. We give this inaugural club match deserved space in our first issue of the New Year! Shukokai was after all the very first shooting range I presented myself at way back in September 2015, and I am always warmly welcomed by its members. The GLOCK 47 dominated the modular handgun trials, whereafter GLOCK was awarded a $85 million contract in 2019 to roll out the new weapons platform over the next decade. Dirk grew up in a small town on the far East Rand, coincidently the same town I grew up in, albeit at least two decades earlier. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Rand Afrikaans Universiteit (RAU) and University of Johannesburg (UJ). Dirk then went out into the big wide world full of excitement, intending to make his mark in the mechanical engineering world, only to find that degreed engineers are often utilised as project engineers, plant engineers and project managers, rather than the hands-on type of engineer he dreamed of being.
