Not only is Southern Sky Operations a retail gunshop, it has a wholesale division and is also heavily involved in firearm training. I was invited to attend a civilian training and shooting day at its indoor ranges in Wynberg, where I met with head of training Darryl Larsen. The product is a concentrated water based lubricant. Before use, it requires extensive dilution. Dilution rate is 20-30 mls diluted in 1 litre of Water, or with 1 litre of Denatured Alcohol. The diluted well mixed diluted product is spray applied at a rate of 1-2 mls to 250 coated cast, and tumbled, and dried before sizing. The residue remaining on the coated casts, reduces sizing loads by about 50%. This significantly reduces wear and tear on machinery. Like many other handgun shooters, I’ve been casting my own bullets for many years and lube-sizing or tumble-lubing them with enough success to be still doing it. I was alerted to the existence of the Hi-Tek product by fellow shooter Angelo Mena who, like me, shoots at the Para Range north of Adelaide.
