The strong woman in Ron’s corner was his mother, Moyna, who, like teenage Ron, worked in the motorcycle accessory shop Welbank Supplies, at Lindfield and later Willoughby on Sydney’s lower north shore. Welbank was owned by Cameron MacMillan (a former wool buyer) and his wife Judy, and shortly after the shop opened in 1972, they were visited by Moyna. In her somewhat brusque manner, Moyna announced, “I’ve come to check you out, and make you welcome to motorcycling.” There was no mucking about where Moyna was concerned, just cut to the chase.
