REVIEW N/A
Fighting a disease is a nasty business. In this free-to-play twin-stick shooter/MOBA, it’s the Strain, transforming innocent, flamethrower-wielding humans into monsters in 5v2v5 matches (two teams of five humans, one team of two mutants). Rolled mutants? Win by “turning” humans to your team or capturing the map with black goo. Human? Battle health-sapping Strain gunge, the other teams, plus enemy turrets and bases.
A fun idea (varied classes, accessible abilities and mech suits prompting furious action) – but day-one servers are abysmal, and a persistent bug often makes everyone suddenly immune to damage. Tech issues aside, a MOBA where teams constantly change feels fundamentally unbalanced. No cure for a wobbly concept, sadly.
VERDICT
Glitchy, patchy, nigh-on unplayable at launch,…
