According to the Americans, who invented much of what we know and love today as four-wheel driving, trucks (pickups and utes) ride on ladder frames, SUVs ride on ladder frames and crossovers have unibodies.
That’s the simplest, most direct and correct definition.
But there’s another, squishier answer, to the question “What is an SUV?” That answer is “I know it when I see it.”
