MARKET COMPOSITION
The rental market in Christchurch Central is made up of mostly houses, with a good representation of flats, too.
Apartments aren’t all that common in the region; however, they are present in five of the 12 areas included and unsurprisingly dominate the Christchurch Central/Hagley area accounting for over 70% of the rental market.
The largest areas profiled, which have over 100 bonds lodged, are, in order of size, Linwood/Phillipstown, St Albans East/ Edgeware, Riccarton, Merivale/St Albans West and Sydenham/Waltham. These areas, along with the smaller Addington, have a good mix of rental houses and flats. Merivale/St Albans West, St Albans East/ Edgeware and Linwood/Phillpstown have more flats than houses.
