The number of white nationalist, hate and anti-government groups in 2024 numbered 1,371, down 5 percent from the prior year, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which also provided the 2011 data. But the drop may be because members report feeling that their beliefs are more supported in mainstream media and, as a result, they feel less urgency to organize.
