The founder of Hyundai, Chung Ju-yung, was born into a poor family in South Korea. His family were unable to afford expensive schools so, at the age of 16, Chung received his first taste of business in his local town when he began selling firewood on the streets.
The Hyundai Motor Company's first car, produced in 1975, was called the Pony. It became South Korea's first-ever mass-produced car.
The Hyundai Motor Group, which also includes Kia, is now the fifth-largest automaker in the world. Their main factory in Ulsan, South Korea, is one of the largest factories in the industry. It even has its own hospital and fire station.
