Since we’ve been married, we’ve owned six dogs. They’ve all been roughly similar, a woolly French Briard was a bit larger, a cocker spaniel cross a bit smaller. But none have been the least bit interested in watching television. That’s surprised us. Most of the dogs have had border collie in them. Outside the house, they’d try to round up anything, even birds. But inside, even if I pointed their head at the television, no reaction whatsoever to what was on the screen. Gene Hackman 1930-2025 Gene Hackman not only starred in suspense movies – he wrote two thriller novels after retiring from acting. Knowing where you come from can be a tricky thing for some of us. I grew up, for example, in a town my family settled into shortly before I was born and then left once I’d flown the coop – which makes it my hometown, but not where my wider family is from.
