Prince Andrew appears to have lied about his friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in his notorious BBC interview, it has been revealed. During the Newsnight interview in 2019, the royal told Emily Maitlis, 54, that he hadn’t been in touch with the late financier after going to New York to end their relationship on December 5, 2010. Apple pie pancakes with blackberry compote PREP +COOK TIME 35 MINUTES (+ COOLING) SERVES 4 1 cup (135g) frozen blackberries (see tip) 1/3 cup (80ml) pure maple syrup 1 cup (150g) wholemeal spelt flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon ½ teaspoon mixed spice Pinch of salt 1 cup (250ml) buttermilk 1 egg, beaten lightly 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1 medium apple, unpeeled, grated Mint leaves, to serve 1 Combine blackberries and half the maple syrup in a small saucepan, bringing to the boil. It really is the best way to travel into town. In Beach Haven, where I live, we’re lucky enough to have a ferry service and the terminal is only a 15-minute walk from my home. There’s nothing quite like being on the water on a balmy summer’s evening and arriving in the heart of downtown Auckland, which is where I was meeting friends for dinner. This is an epic story and, at the same time, a very intimate one. It’s achingly sad but also hopeful. It’s about the terrible – and wonderful – things people do to one another. Homeseeking has a fairly tricky structure. It’s narrated by the two main characters, with one starting at the beginning of their story and the other at the end, which makes you feel like you’re dipping in and out of their lives at different points and gradually piecing them together. There’s also a lot of history, language and place in this novel. But the strength of the two central characters and the love they have for one another across the decades is powerful.
