Finally, some good health news for a member of the royal family. Sarah, Duchess of York, has revealed the melanoma she was diagnosed with late last year hasn’t spread and doctors haven’t found any more cancer. The potentially fatal skin cancer was discovered in December after she had follow-up surgery to a mastectomy she had earlier in the year after a routine mammogram picked up breast cancer. Several moles were removed during the second surgery and one of them was a malignant melanoma. A friend of the duchess says Fergie, 64, has undergone further surgery to examine the area around the malignant mole, as well as lymph nodes, and there’s no sign of the cancer spreading or of any other dangerous moles. “The prognosis is good, though she’ll have to have…

There’s an annual day to revel in joyfuless – the International Day of Happiness – celebrated on March 20 worldwide, and a global Happiness Research Institute dedicated to investigating why some societies are happier than others. For the record, the institute’s 2023 World Happiness Report found New Zealand is the 10th happiest country on the planet. For more than 80 years, Harvard academics have been analysing the elements of a happy life by following 724 men from teenage years to adulthood. I’m about to turn 75. You’d think 75 would be a birthday of major significance – three-quarters of a century. But while we celebrate half a century with parties and family gatherings, and mark our “significant” birthdays every decade, our 25th and 75th birthdays pass with little hoo-haa. New facts have emerged surrounding the tragic shooting incident on the set of the film Rust. Veteran actor Alec Baldwin is due to go on trial in July for involuntary manslaughter after he fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, while rehearsing a scene for the western. The film’s armourer, 26-year-old Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, has also been charged with involuntary manslaughter for the incident in New Mexico in October 2021.
