This column began forming in my head after a ludicrous conversation with a firm of electricians. I’d called to get one of them to replace the pull-string on a little bathroom wall-heater they’d installed years ago. It’d broken off and we couldn’t turn the heater on. 1 Paint the stool in a base colour of your choice (we used Resene Poured Milk). Then, using 20mm masking tape, place strips of tape right next to each other vertically across half of the stool and horizontally across the other half as demonstrated in the photos. 2 Remove every second strip of horizontal tape.
