It was a meeting of British institutions when Queen Elizabeth II visited the famous cobblestones of Coronation Street last week to mark the show’s 60th anniversary.
As she arrived on the set, her first visit since she and the late Prince Philip went in 1982, the Queen was greeted by four of the most beloved actors on the soap, William Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, Barbara Knox, 87, who plays Rita, Sue Nicholls, 77, who plays Audrey and Helen Worth, 70, who plays Gail Platt. Between the four of them, they have clocked up more than 200 years on set.
The Queen, 95, has great respect for the programme’s incredible achievement and described the long-running series as “part of the fabric” of British society.
