The Queen (93) made a right royal entrance at London’s State Opening of Parliament. The monarch was escorted by Prince Charles (70), and both donned suitably regal regalia. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall (72), trailed along in support.
The annual ceremony is steeped in history, but the Queen broke with tradition by not wearing the Imperial State Crown, possibly because it weighs about 1kg. Instead, the George IV State Diadem graced the royal head and the crown graced a cushion, which was placed beside her. While the crown boasts 2868 diamonds, 269 pearls, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds and four rubies, the lighter diadem has a mere 1333 diamonds and 170 pearls.…
