The couple who owned the tea kiosk in the park recognised them; they’d left the tearooms just a few minutes earlier after eating there with an older woman. A reader from Dunedin emailed me a wee while ago with a very curly question. What do you do when you have a distinctive hedge (in this case a yellow flowering Rose of Sharon) and half of it dies? Then, when trying to replace the plants, you find they’re no longer available. Assuming you want to keep the half of the hedge that’s surviving, do you try to match, mix and match, or do something completely different? Hi Jude, I’m in my mid-50s and realise that retirement is something I’ve not really thought much about. I’m now wondering how we will cope financially. We should have saved more, I think. I’ve intermittently worked, but mostly stayed at home to raise our two children who are now in their mid to late teens. Their costs only seem to be increasing which is a bit concerning. Comfort reads Thanks for a great issue that was packed with good stories, from the Duke of Edinburgh’s birthday through to the Silver Swans (17.06.19). But the story about the sudden death and funeral of Mark Dye’s beloved father Barry really resonated with me.
