My mum came up to stay for a few days recently. It’s been a while since she’s been to visit, although having spent a month in England with us, I think she was glad to have the first month of 2019 back in her own home, in her own bed. I was working in the mornings when she was here, as she came during the week and likes to keep the weekends free for my husband and I to have “some time together”. Flourless coconut & almond cake SERVES 8 200g caster sugar 1½ cups almond meal ½ cup desiccated coconut 3 eggs 100g unsalted butter, melted and cooled ¼ cup milk 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/3 cup flaked almonds 2 tbsp apricot jam, warmed, to brush 1 Preheat oven to 180ºC (or 160ºC fan-bake). It’s the handiest thing to keep in your cleaning cupboard and my top 15 uses for it will show you why. 1 MAKE TOOTHPASTE: Mix 2 tbsp baking soda with a pinch of Stevia (a natural herb sweetener you can find at supermarkets and health stores) and 5 drops lemon essential oil. He chronicled his journey from his home in the US to the Bay of Islands in 1926 where he pioneered the virtually untouched waters. Getting young children to sleep is the bane of many parents’ lives. Here are our tips on sorting out sleep issues: • Try to get them into a routine as early as possible.
