BRUSHED OFF
I’d just put toothpaste on her brush for her when Jemimah, four, came into the bathroom. Seeing my handiwork, she cried, “I wanted to do it, Mummy! You’ve ruined it!” I stood there dumbfounded. “Why,” she continued, “do you always have to do things I tell you not to do?!” Oh child, your hypocrisy knows no bounds!

The telephone rang three times and each time it was the same lady wanting a different number. With each call, she apologised and said she thought the lines must be crossed. Finally, she sighed, “If I ring again, don’t bother answering.”
