In the Queen’s lifetime, the public has seen an evolution of the monarchy from proud, conservative traditionalists, to modern royals who are relaxed, warm and genuinely interested in the problems and aspirations of others.
Today, we enjoy witnessing royals who are open about their emotions and feelings, and show public adoration of people – their children included. They’re even, very occasionally, bravely outspoken.
This is Princess Diana’s legacy, perpetuated by her sons, William (34) and Harry (32), most recently during their respective official visits to Vietnam and the Caribbean. And even the Queen is grateful.
“Perhaps, after all, we have rather a lot to thank Diana for,” she admits privately.
