➸ ANYTHING CAN BE A BAR CART. A bookshelf, a dresser, a record cabinet—even the top of a piano—will do in a pinch. But a good one, with flexible wheels, in a durable (but not easily ruinable) material, is worth the investment. To find such worthy bar carts, we spoke to more than a dozen designers, party experts, authors, liquor-store owners, and distillers, turning up a fully customizable cart, a 1930s three-wheeled trolley, and a two-tier, two-tone bar cart (the Umbra Shift Bellwood, seen here, $181), which was roundly praised for its functional rubber-lined wheels, its compact footprint that still provides two shelves of storage space, and its removable trays for easy cleanup.
