North of 44th parallel is the northern most section of the Great Plains, home to the Apsáalooke (Crow), Arikara, Cheyenne, Crow, Dakota (Sioux), Hidatsa, Lakota (Sioux), Mandan, Nakota (Sioux), Northern Cheyenne and Oceti Sakowin. Northern Plains people were known for hunting buffalo, a nomadic lifeway, and intertribal warfare. Though there were many feuds between the tribes of the Northern Plains, there were far more more alliances. Between tribes like the Blackfeet, Crow and Dakota we see that trade and marriage had a larger influence over each culture than the battles and disagreements.
