DOES THE YETI EXIST?
THE BACKGROUND The word “yeti” means “little man-like animal” in the Tibetan language. According to legend, yetis are hairy (and not so little) ogres that look like a cross between a human and a bear. People today still report seeing the mysterious creatures roaming Asia’s Himalayan mountains. The fur-covered monster reportedly stands eight feet tall, weighs some 400 pounds, and snacks on goats. Debate has raged for centuries about whether this creature is man, myth, or bear.
THE CLUES In 1986, a man hiking in the Himalaya photographed what he thought was a yeti in the snow. Other believers have tried testing furry scalps and hair samples, hoping they belonged to an unknown animal. One man even collected what he said was a yeti…
