This illustration, reproduced in Opus medico-chymicum (1618) by Johann Daniel Mylius, illustrates the key alchemical formulation “as above, so below.” This notion, that the laws that govern the heavens also rule the earth, had a clear appeal to those exploring universal laws, such as Isaac Newton.
