Growing up in Nashville, I’ve seen so many changes on 12 South, the street stretching from the Gulch through Woodmont before turning into Granny White. I remember taking that route to Belmont for college. I spent more than a few New Year’s Eve celebrations at The Mirror, a restaurant that closed around 2010, serving the best tapas and cocktails. I remember the bartender saying that most of the families were moving out of the neighborhood as the prices rose and new homes were being built. The inhabitants of these new homes were the beginning of more pedestrian traffic. Then, it evolved into being one of the city’s most thriving tourist spots, complete with many murals for selfie photoshoots and recently added shops, as well as a new hotel to come.…

Dave Rosselli Belmont University Since joining Belmont University in 2023, David “Dave” Rosselli has focused on further expanding the institution’s philanthropic culture as Executive Vice President for University Advancement. A veteran sports broadcaster with over three decades of experience, Dave’s career has been intertwined with storytelling — from radio play-by-play for Baylor University basketball to covering the Bay Area’s professional teams, including the Giants, Warriors and 49ers. This storytelling and communications expertise now fuels his approach to university advancement. He led his team to launch several signature events across the country to meet alumni, families and prospective students where they are. I know, I know. This is my best editor picture yet. Our May issue features a lot of things I love, but our Top Pet Photo Contest is easily my favorite part of this month. It’s so much fun seeing all the precious fur babies submitted, and the competition is always fierce. When illustrious conductor (and later six-time Grammy Award-winner) Giancarlo Guerrero first came to guest-conduct Nashville Symphony 20 years ago, he didn’t know that he would eventually return as Music Director for 16 years. On Wednesday, March 26, guests mixed and mingled at our annual Swig Cocktail Competition at City Winery. Music City's top bartenders came together to compete for best craft cocktails made with Old Dominick 90.1 Proof Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey and Old Dominick Memphis Vodka. On Saturday, May 17, Whiskey, Wine & Whiskers returns for its fourth year raising funds for Dismas House — a residential reentry program that provides housing and holistic support services for formerly incarcerated men. Founded in Nashville in 1974, Dismas House provides vital services, including life skills classes, legal support, employment training, access to employment, mental health assessments, behavioral health counseling, substance abuse support, and educational programming to help formerly incarcerated individuals successfully transition back into the community. Meet Rainey, the beloved Metro Animal Care and Control mascot. Known for brightening the days of staff, volunteers, and visitors at MACC, this kitty is truly treasured by the community. I’m usually behind the scenes putting our magazines together, but this issue our publisher Brian suggested I give a little insight into our cover. Originally, I had planned for this cover to be a photo like the majority of our issues are. However, I found that the photos I took while visiting 12 South didn’t properly represent the charm of it. Even on a Wednesday, the popular area has high volumes of cars and people. The street more than warrants the crowd, but the cars and other distractions in the photos led me to decide that an illustration may be a better route.
