This is our 25th-anniversary issue! Twenty-five years is a long time, but it feels like yesterday. As they say, “Time flies when you’re having fun.” Stacie Standifer started this magazine in 1999 and hired me to be the sales rep. In that first year, we were a scrappy, small team that did everything. I remember those start-up years like an old friend. I say all the time, I am grateful for my job here. I’ve been blessed to meet some incredible people, many of whom I call my friends, thanks to this magazine. Allison Stansberry is a leader in every sense of the word. She graduated with a B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing from Sweet Briar College. She was Vice President of the Student Government Association, Sigma Tau Delta-English Honor Society, President of The Croquet Society, varsity swimming team, and varsity lacrosse team. She holds an MBA in Healthcare Concentration from Belmont University. Her volunteer hours are extensive and include serving on the board of Humanities Tennessee, where she is a member of the Finance Committee. She is also a member of the Junior League of Nashville. The making of a new restaurant often begins with the meeting of creative minds. Such was the case for Choy, the modern Chinese American restaurant launched in the North Gulch. When Tansuo closed earlier this year, co-owner Moni Advani sat down with friends Nishaan Chavda, director of operations for the Mina Group and Brandon Jew, executive chef of Michelin-starred Mister Jiu’s in San Francisco. On Wednesday, August 28, Nashville Lifestyles hosted its annual Women in Business event at the beautiful Conrad Nashville. To start the evening, guests and honorees mixed and mingled while enjoying wine from Arrington Vineyards and bites including coconut shrimp and meat skewers from Conrad Nashville. The seated portion of the event featured live Q-and-A sessions with each honoree, where they discussed a challenge they faced and how they overcame it, advice they would give to their younger selves, and how they define success. When Jami-lyn Fehr decided to expand MODISTE, her luxury designer boutique, she wanted it to be in a walkable neighborhood. She wanted something like downtown Franklin or New York City, where the density of shops and restaurants encourages customers to stroll and try things on, and then sit at a café with their bags by their sides. She loves the Victorian architecture of historic Second Avenue, so she decided to head downtown. “Second Avenue has always been my favorite street in Nashville,” she says. Originally she rented, then a floor of a nearby building went on the market, and she bought it. She re-opened in her new space in November 2023, and then, there were seven months without any foot traffic. That’s because Second Avenue has been through some stuff.…
