One of my favorite parts of my job is attending photoshoots. Now, you know I am not a photographer, I’m not even much help on set that day outside of buying lunch. But, I get the privilege of meeting the people we feature in the magazine. Just a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to meet all of the Women in Business honorees. As District 32 Councilwoman, Nashville resident Joy Styles has a passion for bettering the community that got her elected in 2019 and has carried her into an unopposed run for her second term this August. She has accomplished a lot during her time as a council member, and one of her most recent achievements will greatly impact an industry Music City prides itself on: the arts. In 2022 Styles sponsored the legislation to create the Nashville Music, Film, and Entertainment Commission, which passed this April. We live in an era where reality TV stars seem to burst onto the screen with a business plan in hand. Patrick Whalen and Chef Jamie Lynch of The 5th Street Group have introduced a new restaurant to Nashville’s central business district, a sibling to their Church & Union, opened in 2021. On the ground level of downtown’s iconic L&C Tower, Ophelia’s Pizza + Bar takes its design and culinary cues from Italian restaurants of the ’60s—and some philosophical inspiration from The Bard.
