This year’s Pilgrimage Festival lineup is bigger than ever, especially with industry giants Justin Timber-lake, Eddie Vedder, Ryan Adams, and The Avett Brothers on the bill, along with plenty of Southern up-and-comers. To accommodate the growing festival, which takes place September 23 and 24, Pilgrimage will expand to the Harlinsdale Farm’s South Paddock. KAMPPINEN founder and designer Heidi Wiitanen is a third-generation American Finn who grew up in Michigan’s rural upper peninsula, weaving, sewing, knitting, and building. In 2015, Wiitanen said farewell to her job in molecular genetics at Vanderbilt University to pursue art and design full time. “I wanted to be an artist when I was a little kid,” Wiitanen says, “but I kind of thought the more sensible field to pursue was science, another subject that I enjoyed and was skilled in.” After working as a medical laboratory scientist for nearly two years, she went back to school to study fiber arts and gained a second bachelor’s degree. For the 44th year, the Heritage Foundation of Franklin and Williamson County will host the Heritage Ball, making it the longest running black-tie affair in the county. The Heritage Ball has helped support the historic preservation of downtown Franklin and Williamson County, and it has become a tradition within families, friends, and businesses in the area for an evening under the stars. What started out as an intimate food and music gathering put on by Kings of Leon in 2013 has grown into a weekend-long lovefest for the local food community. Music City Food + Wine Festival returns to Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park September 15 through 17, bringing with it a new schedule and an expanded list of dining and music events. From the start, the singer enlisted the help of Los Angeles-based interior designers and decorators from Laurel & Wolf to create her vision.
