After years of renting holiday homes in Provence, Kyong Millar, founder of the Salt Lake City-based clothing boutique Koo De Ker, and her partner, Donnie, had a clear vision of their ideal French retreat. “I had a tight perimeter,” Kyong explains. “I wanted an old stone house, in a village, without land — since we don’t live in France full time.” Just as important, it had to be somewhere beyond the usual tourist enclaves, a place where they could immerse themselves in daily life and hone their French.
