Despite the BBC’s incessant global warming warnings, we still get cold on our boat. So when we purchased Albany, our Fairline Targa 34, back in 2015, we were delighted it had an Eberspächer heater, something our old Four Winns had never had. Sadly though, the joy was short-lived, as we had problems from the off.
THE MELTED FENDER
To begin with, in a masterpiece of dreadful design, the heater’s exhaust is positioned immediately below the aft cleat on the starboard side. It didn’t take us long to discover this because when we began using the heater, the super-hot exhaust melted its way through the fender hanging from the cleat, emitting a nasty burning smell from the forward cabin.
