City show grows on water Organisers add brokerage area to London Yacht, Jet & Prestige Car Show The organisers of the London Yacht, Jet & Prestige Car Show have revealed plans for their 2016 follow-up, which will see the St Katharine Docks exhibit rebranded as the London On-Water Yacht & Boat Show. Following a successful inaugural year, the show will be expanding to take up much more of the Docklands marina, with more than 60 used boats due to go on display from online brokerage firm Yachtworld. Headed out of Poole harbour to test the new XO360, we’re not always as lucky as we were on Friday, January 8. Often, we’re lumbered with lovely sunny weather and annoyingly calm seas. So how wonderful for a change to have the perfect conditions to test the new XO360 – horrible, steep, closely spaced seas, made worse by a blustery wind over tide. Conditions that would see many a larger boat scurrying for shelter. So far, we’ve driven five of XO’s superb, ubertough, aluminium-hulled (but glass-fibre decked) rocketships. Although this quintet have all been much smaller craft, their dominant characteristic has been the tremendous rough weather performance they all dish up. Within the space of 24 hours, The Rolling Stones returned triumphant to Hyde Park, Murray was crowned king of SW19 and we bought our first boat. We get behind the wheel of the tasty Cormate It’s rare that a boat as stunning as this manages to sneak under the MBY radar for long but the Cormate T27 has actually been around for the best part of ten years in its native Norway. Bugatti goes boating French supercar brand announces move into boat design with Palmer Johnson “This very special project brings together two brands with more than 100 years of experience” Fancy a Bugatti superboat to go with your Bugatti Veyron supercar? That mouthwatering idea could soon be a reality, after Palmer Johnson revealed the fruits of its partnership with the French car manufacturer. Bugatti announced at the 2014 Qatar International Boat Show that it had joined forces with Palmer Johnson as a new ‘lifestyle partner’ and the results are well worth the wait. Sunseeker 131 You needed a good reason to stray outside London’s ExCeL centre on a cold, wet January afternoon, but the biggest boat ever to be displayed at the London Boat Show proved a suitably enticing draw. They’re a cunning bunch down in Poole, though, because the 131 Yacht is in fact a cleverly face-lifted 40M with enough visual and physical tweaks to make it look and feel like a suitably fresh new product. The key external differences are the cutaway bulwarks, bold new window shapes, sundeck hardtop and extended flybridge overhangs, which together lend a very different look to a proven and extremely successful platform. September’s Cannes Boat Show, among the superyachts and super tenders and the might of the established European production yards, had a somewhat unexpected source pulling in the crowds. Built in Poland and called the Galeon 500 Fly, its party trick was a pair of folding bulwarks and sliding side windows that massively increase the size of the cockpit and create an amazing waterside bar outboard of the galley. This sort of trickery, from the mind and drawing board of British designer Tony Castro and his team, is unheard of on this type of 50-footer and it marks the Galeon brand out as a true pioneer of innovation.
