There are several thousand homeschooled kids travelling around Australia. Many families maintain inspiring blogs, having saved hard to live their dream: taking to the road, staying in caravan parks, national parks and free sites, and experiencing the wonders of nature.
Bec and Justin Lorrimer, parents to Jack, Billy and Charli, have written a book, Trip in A Van, also the name of their website. The family has travelled 242,528 kilometres, visiting 412 beaches and 1183 destinations.
Their guide is something they wished had been available when they started travelling seven years ago. It includes a budget covering such costs as campsite fees, fuel, groceries, technology, insurance and car maintenance. It takes about $1000 a week to travel this way.
