What brain skills or functions will college students begin to use that they haven’t had to use very much before?
In adolescence and young adulthood, certain brain regions are still developing, whereas other brain regions are more fully developed. For example, the prefrontal cortex, which underlies planning, judgment, decision-making, and self-regulation, continues to develop into the 20s, but brain regions underlying reward seeking and sensitivity to social and emotional cues reach peak sensitivity in adolescence.
