From 2018 to 2019, four influential figures in architecture, music, dance and literature have each chosen a student for a year of creative collaboration and an exchange of knowledge; where Sir David Adjaye (architecture), Zakir Hussain (music), Crystal Pite (dance) and Colm Toíbín (literature) have worked with Mariam Kamara, Marcus Gilmore, Khoudia Touré and Colin Barrett respectively. Conceived in 2002, this 17-year-old programme supports the pursuit of excellence, quality and performance—values that resound with the watchmaking company’s own. And from this year onwards, the Rolex Arts Initiative will address disciplines in alternating periods, where the 2020-2021 programme would involve film, theatre, visual arts and a variable eighth mentorship that will take place in other fields of the arts and is multidisciplinary.
