As the Log & Timber Home Living team puts the finishing touches on this annual special edition, the holidays are fast approaching. Soon, I’ll be back down South with friends and family, and this issue will be on its own road trip of sorts to newsstands around the country. Maybe it’s the sound of Jimmy Buffett’s “Christmas Island” playing in the background (don’t judge!) or the sight of my neighbors’ Christmas lights glowing just outside my window, but I can’t help but feel that the timing is just right for an issue like this. Some of my most cherished gifts each year are often the ones given simply because the giver loved it so much themselves they just had to share. For example, a copy of “The New Texas Cuisine”…

Art Basel is the premier showcase for contemporary artists. Normally, American gallery-goers have to travel to Miami Beach for a glimpse at these modern masterpieces, but imagine having an exclusive preview of Art Basel’s hottest works right from your sofa. With Samsung’s “The Frame” TV, you can. When not broadcasting the big game or latest true-crime series, today’s typical oversized televisions create nothing but big black holes in otherwise elegant rooms. Samsung has changed all that. As the official visual display partner of Art Basel, Samsung brings more than 15 curated pieces to The Frame’s 4K screens exclusively through its Samsung Art Store, which already offers works from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art and The Musée d'Orsay. These collaborations, combined with the sophisticated, customizable trim…
GREG: We live in Tennessee, but we motorhome in the summertime. There’s a particular area of Colorado that we like in the south-central part of the state. We heard of this very exclusive RV resort that caters to Prevost motorhomes. We went out there in 2019, and they were just opening up some very rare property along the Rio Grande. We decided to build a beautiful cabin with fir half-log siding and, on the lot beside it, put a pavilion with a fireplace and an outdoor kitchen. We’re just below 9,000 feet in elevation. In that part of the…

It was a pleasant summer day in 2018 when Keith Burgess decided to spend it boating with his daughter and her family on Cheat Lake in West Virginia. Little did he know, it was an outing that would change his life, because, just down the road, Janet Drain also had agreed to join her daughter for a day on the boat. As is local tradition, after some time out on the open water, boats from across the lake pulled into “Party Cove,” an area where the vibe perfectly matches the name. “I wasn’t into boat hopping. So, I’m just sitting there, and here comes Keith floating up,” recalls Janet. “We started talking, and he told me he is a plumber. I shared that my last name was Drain, and the…
