FOR anyone thinking of converting their battered, farmyard workhorse to electric propulsion, Electrogenic may have the answer, but you’ll need to fork out £24k for the kit, plus a bit more to get a suitably trained mechanic to fit it. Despite that being equivalent to buying a couple of mid-nineties Defenders in well-used condition, Electrogenic reckons that owners can save up to £6000 per year in fuel and maintenance with its EV converted Defender – assuming the vehicle is used every day. And it’s not all hot air and PR – the Electrogenic team knows these figures are broadly accurate because it tested its EV conversion kit around Worthy Farm – site of the Glastonbury Festival – over the past 18 months. THE Advertising Standards Authority in Ireland (ASAI) has been on Land Rover’s back again for false claims. This time, it is for a print advertisement that ran in several of Ireland’s national newspapers with the car maker suggesting its SUVs could help save the planet. In the campaign, gardener Diarmuid Gavin, a brand ambassador for the company, claimed the Defender hard top was helping him in “planting the seeds of a more sustainable life”, and that the vehicle’s mild-hybrid technology “fits in with his sustainability goals.” The ASAI received 28 complaints after the ad ran last summer. Readers said the campaign appeared to be ‘greenwashing’, as SUVs could not be said to be environmentally friendly. A fabulous variety of rare and interesting Land Rovers descended on Thruxton Circuit for the 2022 edition of Land Rover Legends in June. Running alongside the lively Thruxton Historic race meeting, the weekend featured a unique Land Rover track parade on the circuit each day, with participants from the leading clubs, Dunsfold Collection and, of course, finalists for the National Awards, sponsored by Britpart. Great weather helped to bring out a record attendance over the weekend, with spectacular flypasts from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and a vintage aircraft fly-in adding to the entertainment.
