That’s Motorsport Ltd is organising and promoting a Clubman Hill Rally on May 27-29, 2022, in the Welshpool area of Mid Wales. The event will be the first UK Hill Rally to use Closed Public Roads as parts of its stages and will be a combination of grass, mud and gravel roads, with fast, technical and rough stages – all while enforcing a 50mph average speed. Joining the electric revolution WHILST I have heard several accounts that the used car market has gone a bit crazy lately, I must admit, I had not looked into it closely. Until earlier this week. I mentioned in my last column that we are considering selling our Defender and buying something smaller, more suited to driving in the city (a car you can fit in an underground car park amongst other, very practical things). We went to various dealerships and the Australian market is pretty bleak, especially so for European brands. My son and I are in the process of restoring a 1967 Series IIA [pictured above] and we had to fit a new wire harness before the article came out. I had trouble with the flasher unit and thanks to the knowledgeable Mr Hall I now know the ‘B’ is for battery while the ‘L’ is for light. I just have to add that I received two faulty units while the third one was a charm. I think I have found the most Land Rover-friendly place in the world. And the place is easily accessible by road directly from England. It’s called Wales. My recent few days off took me and my wife Louise to the Welsh coast, and as we had opted to take the Td5 90 to make more of an adventure of it, we travelled from south Lincolnshire using only A-and B-roads; no motorways or lengthy dual carriageways for us. Meeting a Legend WE’RE in South Africa, visiting the Fella’s family. Outside their garage is a white Discovery 4 and inside is a comely racing green Series III, exact date of manufacture unknown, but in dad Martin’s hands for the last 25 years. MOST of my greenlaning experiences in the UK have been in places such as Wales, Yorkshire, the Lake District or the Peak District. All of them great locations in their own right. OVER my years of owning and driving various Land Rover Discovery 2 models, I have had an on-off relationship with roof racks. On my first Td5 Discovery 2, I had an aluminium roof rack manufactured and fitted by Patriot Products Ltd (Patriot Roof Racks), complete with rear door access ladder. The Patriot roof rack is a very well-designed and engineered product and it stayed on my Discovery for the rest of the time I owned the vehicle. I removed the roof rack prior to putting the Discovery up for sale. The next Discovery 2 that I owned was a Td5 automatic model.
