Who would ever have thought that they would live through a pandemic? One that is slowly destroying our economy, halted all but emergency and essential travel and is killing thousands by the day. For now fortunately our printing presses are still running, our distributors are still getting the magazine out to the stores that are still open and the good old Royal Mail is still delivering subscriber copies. A total of 312 vehicles (as of April 9) have now been deployed globally by JLR to support emergency response organisations during the coronavirus crisis. In terms of the UK specifically, 210 vehicles, including 27 new Defenders, have been supplied to British Red Cross and other frontline services, which will help provide practical support such as medicine and food deliveries, and patient transport to those needing to get to and from hospital. IN order to keep South African Red Cross Society (SARCS) mobile in its efforts to control and minimise the spread of the coronavirus, 11 vehicles from Jaguar Land Rover’s Experience and marketing fleets, have been supplied free of charge. They have been dispatched nationwide to boost transport capacity for SARCS while volunteers have been deployed to critical areas where they will engage communities and educate on how the virus is transmitted and how to avoid risks. In many vulnerable areas the South African population has limited access to mainstream media and social platforms such as TV, Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp which provide instant communication and updates of COVID-19. WHILE events to commemorate 50 years of Range Rover around the world are being cancelled or postponed due to the coronavirus, Land Rover were at least able to begin their anniversary celebrations with a snow art installation at its Arjeplog cold weather test facility in Sweden. Back in March, renowned snow artist Simon Beck created the 53,092 square metre anniversary logo by walking more than 45,000 steps across the powdery surface inside the steering pad, accompanied by a quartet of the latest Range Rover SV models.
