It is raining. Max and Kate are stuck indoors. “I'm tired of playing checkers,” says Max. “Let’s paint!” says Kate. Max and Kate paint a colorful rainbow together. “Rain, rain, go away! Come again another day,” they chant as they paint. “It looks good, but I have an idea!” says Kate. She surprises Max by running out the door. “Hey!” says Max, “It’s still raining!” Raindrops pitter-patter onto the paper. Charlie comes over to watch. One spring morning, Sly the weasel popped out of bed ready for mischief. “After all,” he said, “mischief is what weasels do best.” Before he could pull any tricks, however, he needed breakfast. Oatmeal? No. Pancakes? No. Broccoli? No and no and no. What his tummy rumbled for was an omelet, and he knew just where to find the eggs. Sly slipped away to a nearby pond. Hiding behind hills, wading in reeds, at last he spied an unattended nest with three duck eggs tucked inside. Yum! Here was his best chance for morning mischief. What You'll need: Scissors Knife (optional) Plastic drinking straw Hole punch Brad paper fastener What to Do: J. Ask a grownup to help you make a short slit near the top of the plastic drinking straw, using the blade of the scissors or a knife. Set the straw aside for later. 2. Cut out the pinwheel along the black cutting lines. Follow the cutting lines from each corner toward the center of the pinwheel, but stop before you get to the center.
