Herbert the horse would not hurry up. If a rider said, “Hurry up” or “Giddyap” or “Come on,” Herbert would stop.
Harry and Henrietta were the owners of the riding stable. “Horrors,” moaned Henrietta. “No one will pay to ride Herbert. No one wants to sit on a horse that acts like a haystack.”
“Maybe his saddlecloth is itchy,” said Harry. They gave Herbert a new one, but he still would not hurry up.
“Maybe we could try humming,” Henrietta suggested. But they hummed loudly and off-key, which hurt Herbert’s ears.
“Maybe it’s the food,” Harry said. “Let’s try oats instead of hay.” Herbert liked both, but still would not hurry up.
“Well,” they cried, “this is horrible.”
Finally, Harry’s nephew, Billy, said, “Maybe Herbert doesn’t like to be ordered…
