On the eve of the release of Fast X, tenth film in the ‘Fast & Furious’ series, Bonhams announced the auction of a special car from an earlier instalment in the globally successful film franchise. In a one-lot, week-long online auction that gets underway on 28 April, Bonhams will offer a 2000-model Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R that featured in Fast & Furious 4, was driven by the late Paul Walker in the movie and also used for promotional stills. After what they describe as nine strong years in the market, Chevrolet will end production of the sixth-generation Camaro coupe and convertible in January, 2024. But they say this won’t be the final chapter for the nameplate that debuted back in 1966. The announcement, made on 22 March, comes in the wake of steadily falling demand for the Camaro, with the Corvette outselling the pony car for the past two years, despite the ‘Vette being around double the price. Shannons Timed Online Summer Auction attracted a diverse array of desirable vehicles, as well as motorcycles, memorabilia and early number plates. As with past Shannons auctions, the demand for heritage number plates was hot, with a Victorian ‘80’ plate selling for $1.6 million and early NSW plates selling for a combined $7.6 million. While the auction was a strong one for plates, it was less so for cars. A 1972 Ford XY Falcon GT-HO Phase III, the gold standard for Australian-made collectable cars, sold for what’s believed to be somewhere in the $500K range.
