Ford has announced performance figures for the upcoming seventh-generation (S650) Mustang, with the good news that there are horsepower increases across the board and new benchmarks claimed for both available engine options. On top of this, the all-new Mustang ‘Dark Horse’ variant will feature the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine ever offered in a production Mustang. Targa and Motorsport Australia (MA) have announced that Targa High Country, the Victorian leg of the national Targa tarmac rally series, will go ahead in 2023, but in a new format. The uncertainty over the future of Targa High Country - and Targa rallies in general - came in the wake of fatalities at last year’s Targa Tasmania that prompted a review by MA. But following what’s been described as ‘cohesive discussions’ between Targa organisers and MA, Targa High Country will go ahead on 11-12 February, but in a Rallysprint-style format. The new format will utilise a trio of eight-kilometre stages on the Mt. Buller Road, with three runs over each stage daily. British sportscar specialist Caterham Cars turns 50 in 2023, which is a major achievement for any automotive manufacturer, let alone one so niche. To celebrate the occasion, a series of events are planned this year, culminating in a Golden Anniversary track day at the UK’s Donington Park circuit in September. Before it was a manufacturer, Caterham Cars was an agent for Lotus, based in Caterham, Surrey. Their success with selling Lotuses, particularly the Seven sports roadster, saw the firm become the UK’s sole distributor, When Lotus looked to discontinue Seven production in the early 1970s, Caterham’s Graham Nearn struck a deal to buy the rights to the Seven name and all the related manufacturing equipment. Six years after it was introduced, Kia’s Stinger sedan is near its end, but it will be farewelled with a ‘Tribute Edition’ that features a new exterior colour option and unique interior trim. Along with similar models from other manufacturers, it seems the Stinger is a victim of the demand for SUVs and the move toward electrification. This year’s Repco Bathurst 1000 will mark 60 years since the annual enduro was first held at Mount Panorama, and with the 60th Anniversary event expected to attract a huge crowd, tickets are already on sale. In fact, Supercars advised that tickets for the 2023 Bathurst 1000 went on sale in the first week of December, ensuring early-bird fans could secure their attendance well in advance of the 5-8 October event. Petrolheads young and old are mourning the passing of Ken Block, who was killed in a snowmobile accident near his ranch in Utah on 2 January. Best known to many for his series of ‘gymkhana’ videos on YouTube that saw the American thrash road and rally cars around various environments, Block’s sale of his stake in the DC Shoes footwear brand he co-founded in 1994 funded a career in motorsport, specifically rallying. Ford have announced that production of their third-generation GT supercar will end soon, but not before a special ‘MkIV’ track-only version is built, offering more performance than the roadgoing version, as well as any other GT released previously. Announced on 9 December, the MkIV will be the final track-specific variant of the GT that Ford and its partners will produce, following in the wheeltracks of the last roadgoing version; the GT LM Edition that was announced in October. Since the early 1980s, the birthplace of Bugatti in Molsheim, France, has welcomed owners of classic Bugattis (and a few new ones) to the ‘Bugatti Festival’, an event organised by the Enthousiastes Bugatti Alsace (EBA = Bugatti Enthusiasts, Alsace) club. In 2022, the 39th edition of the festival brought together more than 50 classic Bugattis that originally rolled out of the Molsheim factory, uniting them with some of the latest machines to wear the famous Bugatti badge.
