A genuine Ferrari Formula One racer driven to multiple victories by Michael Schumacher in his championship-winning 2003 season has sold at auction for a multi-million dollar amount. The car, F2003-GA chassis #229, was one of six built in F2003-GA spec by Scuderia Ferrari designers and technicians that included Ross Brawn, Rory Bryne and Paolo Martinelli. Replacing an updated F2002 partway through the 2003 F1 season, the F2003-GA (the ‘GA’ was added in tribute to former Fiat boss, Gianni Agnelli, who had passed away that January) featured a longer wheelbase and improved aerodynamics to take advantage of the properties of the Bridgestone tyres in use that season. The latest iteration of Maserati’s ‘FTributo Special Edition’ series pays homage to Maria Teresa de Filippis, who was the first female to compete in Formula One. Born in Italy, de FIlippis started racing in 1948, initially in production cars before moving to more exotic sports cars. A runner-up finish in the 1954 Italian Sports Car Championship led to Maserati signing her as a works driver, for whom she campaigned a factory A6GS in the 1955 Targa Florio and other events, but her first F1 drive wouldn’t come until 1958. Although Maserati had withdrawn from F1 as a constructor after the 1957 season, their cars remained available to privateers like de Filippis, who secured a 250F for the 1958 Monaco Grand Prix. Shane van Gisbergen is now a three-time Supercars Champion, with the Red Bull Ampol Racing driver wrapping up this year’s title at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 in October. The 33-year-old Kiwi came into this season’s penultimate round with a commanding 567-point lead in the championship over Tickford Racing’s Cam Waters, so only needed only to come out of the round’s two 250km races with a 450-point lead to secure the title. Jaguar Classic has announced a new and exclusive ’70-Edition’ version of their C-Type Continuation car, styled in honour of the original C-Type’s achievements 70 years ago and offered in two different finishes. For the 1953 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Jaguar entered four new C-Type Works racers, backing up from their victory with an earlier iteration of the car in 1951.
