To say the 240Z was a game-changer for Nissan is an understatement. Aside from the early Fairlady roadsters and Toyota’s 2000 GT, Japanese carmakers weren’t known for sporty cars in the late 1960s. After 18 months and more than 6,000 hours, the restoration of Aston Martin’s one-off ‘Bulldog’ supercar is complete. The finished vehicle made its post-resto debut at September’s Concours of Elegance show in the UK. When it was first built, the Bulldog was a year in the making, designed to show off Aston Martin’s engineering prowess and attract specialist contract work. It was also intended to be the world’s fastest production car, with a limited production run of 15 to 25 units planned. Initial development was undertaken off-site before a concerted effort to get the car completed saw a section of the Newport Pagnell works devoted to the car and a team of eight overseeing its engineering and construction. Morgan Motor Company have confirmed they are developing an all-new version of their 3 Wheeler, releasing the first details, along with images of a camouflaged engineering prototype, on 1 September. The name and many other details for the new 3 Wheeler are yet to be confirmed, but Morgan say the upcoming model will mark the next chapter in the story of Morgan’s three-wheeled vehicles that stretches back more than a century and was revived - as the ‘3 Wheeler’ - in 2011. After more than three months without racing, the Repco Supercars Championship will resume in late October. Following cancellation of the Bass Coast Festival of Motorsport at Phillip Island, the Gold Coast 500 and Winton SuperSprint, Sydney Motorsport Park (SMP) will now host four rounds in an effort to get the season completed under an unpredictable COVID-19 environment. The four consecutive rounds at SMP will be followed by the Bathurst 1000, which has been rescheduled to 5 December as the showcase of a six-day “motorsport festival” at Mount Panorama and will also serve as the finale for the 2021 season. Genesis used the recent Monterey Car Weekin the US to present concepts exploring how the luxury brand could be taken to the racetrack. Being such a young brand, Genesis has no competition history, but ‘The Performance of Design’ display at Monterey Car Week – the annual celebration of classic, prestige and significant automobiles in California – this past August presented what such a motorsport programme could look like in the future. Due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s Geelong Revival Motoring Festival has been postponed from its planned 26-28 November date to March, 2022. Following last year’s cancellation due to the pandemic, the decision to postpone this year’s Revival was announced on 2 September and came after discussion between the event organisers and key stakeholders, including the City of Greater Geelong council. The Revival’s new provisional date has been set at 4-6 March, 2022, and while this also remains subject to COVID-19 developments, it’s hoped the situation with the pandemic will have improved by then. Who’d have thought the famous MG octagon badge would ever grace anything like this? Following the ‘Cyberster’ concept unveiled in April, MG have released an even more radical vehicle – the ‘Maze’ concept. While the Cyberster concept did have the faintest hint of classic MG roadsters in its design, the Maze is a new idea altogether. Since the revered MG name was purchased by Nanjing Automobile Group in 2005, the focus has been on the present and the future. That continued when Nanjing merged with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation to create SAIC Motor a few years later. After what has seemed like years of spy shots, teases and previews, the new Nissan Z sports coupe has finally been revealed. The first new Z car in more than a decade, the latest generation was unveiled in the US in August and is due to reach Australian showrooms sometime in 2022. While the new Z continues a lineage that stretches back to 1969, it does break with tradition somewhat in that there’ll be no number prefacing the model name.
