The Repco Supercars Championship has released its draft calendar for 2021, which contains both the familiar and the unexpected. The unexpected starts with two rounds at Bathurst, including a ‘500’ in February, as the traditional season opener in Adelaide will not go ahead. Also unexpected is a season finale on the Gold Coast, instead of Newcastle or Sydney, as the Surfers Paradise street circuit returns to the calendar. Two night races are on the calendar, one at Waneroo in September following another at Sydney Motorsport Park, which is the first round after the mid-season break. In the early years of the 20th Century, crossing the Sahara Desert was achievable, but incredibly time consuming. The sole mode of transport available was the camel, which took around six months to complete the 3,000+km journey from north to south, with the meandering route determined by the proximity of wells and oases that dotted the region. With Holden’s proving grounds at Lang Lang sold off in September, followed by the closure of the Holden Design Centre in October, the next act in General Motors’ dissolution of the Australian carmaker’s assets took place in December when it was confirmed that the Holden heritage collection would be sent to more than a dozen museums around the country. Burns & Co. auctions have scored a coup for their 17 January, 2021, auction with a very special 1967 Holden HR Premier. Toyota has released an upgraded version of the GR Supra, that adds a retuned engine and strut tower braces for improved handling. The upgrade, applied to both the GT and GTS variants, increases maximum power on the turbocharged 3.0-litre straight six engine from 250kW to 285kW, delivered between 5800rpm and 6500rpm. Compression ratio has been lowered to 10.2:1 with the retune, too. Maximum torque of 500Nm is unchanged, but now delivered across a broader rev range – 1800rpm to 5000rpm. The result is a claimed 0.2 second improvement in the sports coupe’s 0-100km/h sprint time, now at 4.1 seconds. Fuel economy is unchanged, at 7.7lt/100km on the combined cycle. With 2021 marking the 60th Anniversary of the iconic E-Type, Jaguar have a number of celebrations planned, including the restoration of six matching pairs of E-Type roadsters and convertibles. Slightly less exclusive is a set of 60 tribute vehicles based on the current F-Type, the E-Type’s modern successor. The first limited-edition vehicle from Jaguar’s SV Bespoke arm, the ‘Heritage 60 Edition’ is based on the F-Type R, with its 423kW/700Nm supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine, revised suspension tune and all-wheel drive.
