MORGAN 3 WHEELER REGAINS ADR APPROVAL

Changes to the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) that would have made the Morgan 3 Wheeler ineligible for registration in Australia have recently been overturned, with the classicly-styled three wheel roadster now OK for Australian delivery into 2017 and – hopefully - beyond. The planned ADR changes would have made the 3 Wheeler ineligible from 1 November, 2017, which in turn meant that “last orders” would have had to be placed before the end of January, 2017, to ensure delivery. But, following consultation and an additional submission to the Department of Transport in Canberra by several interested parties, Morgan Cars Australia confirmed on 24 November that type approval has been updated, which means the 3 Wheeler will be available for local sale “for the foreseeable future.” Morgan Cars Australia are now…

MUSTANG GT4 RACER UNVEILED AT SEMA

While there were more than 50 Ford-based concepts at this year’s SEMA show – including plenty of Mustangs - the one that drew the most attention was a “turn key” Mustang GT4 race machine that’s reportedly already attracting the attention of GT racing teams, both here and overseas. Based on the Shelby GT350R-C, the Mustang GT4 unveiled at SEMA featured a 5.2-litre V8 engine, matched to a Holinger paddle-shift six-speed transmission and was designed to cater to GT4 competition globally, which should make it suitable for the GT Trophy Series here in Australia. HT MONARO AUCTIONED FOR $225,000 IN SYDNEY

A1969 Holden HT Monaro GTS 350 in unrestored ‘survivor’ condition was the top selling vehicle at Shannons Sydney Spring Auction on 7 November. This ‘Bathurst’ Monaro, with its Chevy 350 V8 and Saginaw 4-speed manual transmission, came to the Shannons auction bearing a few battle scars, but was complete and unrestored. Therein lay its appeal. Finished in Verdoro Green with gold stripes and a Sandalwood vinyl interior, the auctioned car was delivered new to the first owner in Wagga Wagga and has remained with the same family in the NSW Riverina region ever since. LAMBORGHINI CONFIRM RWD HURACAN SPYDER FOR AUSTRALIA

Fresh after its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Lamborghini Australia has confirmed that the rear-wheel drive version of the Huracan Spyder will be coming here in 2017. Lamborghini says the new arrival combines “the lifestyle appeal of the convertible with the pure on-road experience of the Huracan’s two-wheel drive technologies.” The roofless equivalent of the RWD Huracan LP580-2 coupe, the Spyder runs the same, slightly detuned version of Lamborghini’s 5.2-litre V10 engine, matched to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and producing 426kW, compared to the AWD version’s 448kW. MOPAR PRESENT DODGE ‘SHAKEDOWN’ CHALLENGER AT SEMA

The Mopar parts and performance division of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) always produce something special for the annual SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) show in the US. This year was no exception, with a heavily modified take on a classic 1971 Dodge Challenger leading the way. Called ‘Shakedown,’ the concept featured a one-off chassis, which not only allowed the concept to sit lower, but also permitted the fitting of a completely removable ’71 Challenger body. This year’s Motorclassica Australian International Concours d’Elegance saw a 1969 Holden HT Monaro GTS win the prestigious ‘Best in Show’ prize. MAZDA MX-5 RF COMING IN FEBRUARY

Mazda Australia has confirmed the ‘RF’ (Retractable Fastback) version of the MX-5 roadster will reach Australian shores in February, 2017. The MX-5 RF, which made its debut back at the New York Auto Show in March, will be offered here in both standard RF and RF GT variants. List pricing starts at $38,550 for the 6-speed manual: the 6-speed auto adds a $2,000 premium. The main difference between the two variants is in the level of appointments. The base RF features cloth seat trim, LED headlights with adaptive technology, a 4.6-inch full-colour TFT infotainment screen and leather-trim for the steering wheel and gear shifter.
